Description

NoVA ASHI TECHNICAL SEMINAR

MARK PARLEE
"The Building Consultant"

October 24, 2019

The Waterford at Fair Oaks

12025 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway Fairfax VA 22033

When I spoke with Mark at a seminar last year, he was working on 28 lawsuits. Mark is a building envelope failure / water intrusion expert, and also a dynamic speaker. If you've heard Mark speak before, you'll probably want to hear him speak again. If you haven't heard him speak, you don't want to miss this seminar! Almost all homes built in the Greater DC Metro area in the last 10 or so years have some type of adhered masonry or stone veneer - many of them in combination with fiber cement siding. Most of these homes likely have envelope construction errors that will eventually result in water damage. Attend this seminar to get the knowledge you need to protect yourself - and your clients.

Mark Parlee, the Building Consultant, (also known as The Leak Detective) has spent 43 years building residential homes, commercial buildings and apartment complexes and completing remodeling projects. As The Building Consultant, he offers consulting services to identify the problems of building performance, moisture intrusion (leaks), and construction defects. Mark’s services are related specifically to the building envelope, which protects the rest of the structure. Moisture intrusion into the building envelope can cost thousands of dollars. Microbial action resulting from moisture intrusion can be detrimental to health. A quality, professional building analysis is critical before buying a new home, for litigation, in negotiations with insurance companies and builders, and for general safety in any home to save incalculable funds and hassles in the future.

Mark has been invited to speak as a moisture intrusion expert at the National Home Builders Association (NAHB) Remodeling Council, the Iowa Roofing Contractors Association (LIRCA), and other prominent seminars. To maintain his expertise and improve in his work, Mark consistently supplements his education. The most prominent seminars and workshops he attends are the American Institute of Architects seminar, the Iowa Association of Building Officials seminar, the Journal of Light Construction seminar, and the University of Minnesota workshop. He is fully certified by the Exterior Design Institute (EDI) as an Exterior Installation and Finish Systems (EIFS) Inspector, Moisture Analyst, and Quality Control expert and the International Code Council. Additionally, he is a DuPont Certified Tyvek Installer, a Level I Infrared Thermographer (Snell), certified in Therma Tru Entry Installation, a Certified Building Envelope Investigator (BEC2), and is certified with the Building Envelope Science Institute (BESI). Mark is currently working on his certification with the Building Performance Institute.
